ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT:

The job holder will report to Partnership & Communication Officer. At this level,  he must take responsibility for completion of a range of communications processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines/practices.

JOB PURPOSE:

To perform general administrative and specialised communications processes that support the creation of communications content and the delivery of communications services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.      

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

  • Contribute to developing, maintaining, and updating a country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.
  • Support the Communication team defining a social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks, and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
  • Under clear guidance of Communication lead, proactively create and post social media content (stories, photos, advocacy images, video, infographics, etc.) on respective social media channels to raise awareness of WFP brand and various campaigns among Guinean public.
  • Monitor and promote WFP’s online channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.) and share related communication assets to enable WFP contents to gain more attention from the public.
  • Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications. `
  • Generate donor specific visibility content including text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fundraising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  • Support the production of accurate information materials (human interest stories, multimedia products, press releases) that meet quality standards and enable informed decision making.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to support WFP to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.
  • Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns
  • Work in close collaboration with WFP staff and counterparts to align activities and ensure a coherent approach to communications within WFP.
  • Utilize Adobe graphic tools such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc
  • All content created will remain the copyright of WFP and that WFP will be free to adapt and modify them in the future.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, Political science or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experience:

  •  Four (4) years of professional experience including at least 3 in the field of Communication, preferably in an NGO or other UN agency/organisation, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
  •  Experience of managing small teams of staff with related areas of expertise.

Competencies:

•    Skills and experience in either of photography, graphic design, and video editing is a significant advantage.   • Experience developing social media content to generate response from audiences online.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to persuade, influence and adapt communication style to different situations and individuals.

•    Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assdw imilate UN/WFP specific processes and systems.

•    Ability to analyse and interpret information, identify trends, and provide solutions.

•    Ability to rapidly analyse and integrate diverse information.

Languages:

Fluency (level C) in English and French.
